Open Evening

On Thursday 22 September Laurence Jackson School was host to in excess of 900 parents, carers and prospective Year 7 students in its 11th annual Open Evening. This evening provided a fantastic opportunity for visitors to meet staff, experience a selection of the numerous curricular and extra-curricular activities and visit all areas of our fantastic new state of the art building.

Tony Gavin, Headteacher, addressed the audience, emphasising how LJS definitely succeeds in improving the life chances of every child in its care. Mr Gavin also covered some of the fantastic range of experiences available at LJS including clubs, practices, teams and numerous educational visits including residentials in the UK, Europe and beyond. This was followed by a joint presentation from Erica Hore, Head Girl and Angus Thomas, Head Boy, who clearly acted as great ambassadors for the school and demonstrated what eloquent and confident students LJS have nurtured during their school career.

Visitors were then able to discover first-hand the extensive range of opportunities available in every curriculum area. Over 200 students volunteered to assist during the evening, either involved in practical presentations or acting as guides showing visitors around.

The feedback from parents/carers overwhelmingly indicated how impressed they were with such polite, considerate and enthusiastic young people. They clearly felt that the students themselves exhibited the values of LJS in action.

Here is a selection of comments made by parents/carers and prospective Year 7 students on the evening:
