LJS exam results stand firm against changes in the exam system nationally

Successful outcomes at LJS for Class of 2017

Despite yet more significant changes to the exams and qualifications framework nationally, Year 11 students at Laurence Jackson School, Guisborough have matched the high levels of achievement from previous years.

Investigation progresses

Cleveland Police and Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council have confirmed that there has been significant progress in an investigation into allegations regarding a member of staff at a school in the local area.
Police confirmed earlier this week that a 24-year-old man from Stockton had been arrested in relation to indecent images of children.

Just an update on money raised for charities for 2016/17.

During last year as a school we raised £3232.90 for various charities the breakdown of which is below:

On 13 June 2017, Jessica M, William S, Meredith R and Cara S attended a Salters Chemistry competition held at Newcastle University.

On the 26th April some year 7 and 8 pupils took part in the Junior Maths Challenge which is a National competition, which required pupils to complete very challenging problem solving. There were 3 pupils receiving a gold award, 8 silver and 15 Bronze.

In view of the recent tragic fire in London, I would like to reassure parents that no combustible materials were used in the construction of the building and a sprinkler system and fire alarm operates throughout the new building.

Students are familiar with the fire evacuation procedures, which have been fully tested, although we will carry out a further simulation exercise before the end of term.

Over recent months several students and staff have been working hard producing creative writing and art work as part of the Guisborough Town Hall Gateway project.

The outcome for their outstanding commitment and contribution was a four page feature in Coastal View and Moor News with 24 students having their work published in the paper which went out to over 26,000 readers.

Congratulations to three Laurence Jackson School pupils who competed in the U14 National Finals for Grangetown Netball Club this weekend.  Erin W, Ruby W & Katharine B (Vice Captain) all took to the court and played against the best teams in the Country.  To be one of the 18 teams at the finals the squad had to qualify through County and Regional Leagues.  This competition saw the squad finishing 8th in the Country, missing out on 7th place by one goal. This is a massive achievement for these students and is the best position the club has ever finished in a national final.

LJS sends our love, respect and solidarity to the people of Manchester -  “Stand strong together”.

Following our fantastic annual dance show in April, we have had further fantastic news for a number our students excelling in dance.

Amy C competed at Loughborough University on 23rd May, in the BUCS trials for selection for the Under 18 Commonwealth games in the Bahamas.

On Saturday 29th April former student Connor Simpson made his professional football debut for Hartlepool F.C. away at Cheltenham.

Josh B, year 11, competed in the British Superbikes and was interviewed on Eurosport as a new member of the team.

The KTM RC cup took place from Thurs 30th March until Sunday 2nd April at Donington Park.

Josh took part in numerous heats and despite some technical difficulties with his bike, he found it an amazing experience.
