School Uniform

Ahead of purchasing school uniform for your child, please note the following guidance to ensure compliance with our expectations.

Trutex supply our specific items of uniform i.e. Blazer, Tie and Skirt. All other items of uniform can be purchased elsewhere as long as it meets the school guidelines.

Following some parental queries this week there is no intention to change the school name or uniform at this time. Parents should purchase the current uniform as normal for 2019/20.

From September all students will wear a year group specific tie. This tie stripe colour will remain with your child throughout their time at LJS.  The new Governing Body and I have decided that students’ identity is determined more effectively by their year group than by their house colour, therefore from September all students will wear green school crest ties with a colour band that will identify their year group instead of the current ties where the band of colour identifies their houses.

All uniform is available from Trutex or can be purchased from Bambini in Guisborough. Trutex offer an online service and the electronic brochure is accessible via the school website.  Orders can now be made online at www.trutex.com registering on School Specific Uniform using Laurence Jackson School’s LEA code: LEA00925SC.  Alternatively, you can order by telephone on 01200 421206.  You can also access sizing information on the website by following this link which may help you ensure you get your child’s correct sized uniform: https://www.trutex.com/sizing.

The ties are available from our uniform suppliers Trutex and Bambini, as well as from the main school office at a cost of £6.50.  However, because we recognise that these are potentially challenging times for families financially, and in order to support parents with this change at this time, parents of students moving into Years 8, 9 and 10 will have the opportunity to purchase a replacement tie via Gateway at the subsidised cost of £3. Subsequent purchases of ties will be £6.50 from all retailers.

From September all students will wear a year group specific tie. This tie stripe colour will remain with your child throughout their time at LJS.  The new Governing Body and I have decided that students’ identity is determined more effectively by their year group than by their house colour; therefore, from September all students will wear green school crest ties with a colour band that will identify their year group instead of the current ties where the band of colour identifies their houses.

The table below outlines the tie that corresponds to each year. As Year 11 will have less time in school than every other year group, next year’s Year 11 will be able to either continue to wear their existing tie or purchase a new one as they would prefer.

New Year 7 starting LJS in September

Black stripe and school crest

Students starting at LJS purchase their first tie and will continue with this tie colour till the end of Y11

Students moving into Year 8 in September

Maroon stripe and school crest

Students in these year groups will need new ties this year and will continue with this tie colour till the end of Y11.

Students moving into Year 9 in September

Royal blue stripe and school crest

Students moving into Year 10 in September

Gold stripe and school crest

Students moving into Year 11 in September

Green stripe and school crest

A new tie is optional not compulsory and Y11 can continue to wear their current tie.

In addition to this change, from September a jubilee tartan skirt, which is pictured below, is available from our uniform suppliers. We have added this to the uniform because it is a smart additional option to our current black pleated skirt.  Black pleated skirts will continue to be an option for the next academic year. However, please note that from September 2020, a pleated skirt, either black or tartan is the only style of skirt that will be permitted.

School Uniform Expectations

The rest of the uniform expectations are unchanged. Please see a reminder below of our uniform expectations. Students must wear:

  • a Laurence Jackson School blazer

  • Socks must be black white or grey and pleated skirts must be worn them with plain black tights of at least 60 deniers. Patterned tights are not permitted.

Jumpers are an optional item of uniform.  Students in Key Stage 3 (Years 7 to 9) may choose to wear a plain green V neck jumper under their blazer and in Years 10 and 11 may choose to wear a plain black V neck jumper.  Trutex sell plain jumpers with the school logo although a completely plain jumper of the appropriate style and colour is also permitted.  However, a jumper is not an alternative to the school blazer; students are required to always wear blazers to move around the school building and during assemblies.
