LJS was visited by a team of inspectors on the 22nd & 23rd November, under the leadership of Malcolm Kirtley HMI. The overall feedback was extremely positive with the school being rated “Good” with several outstanding elements for Teaching & Learning, Personal Development, Well-being, Behaviour and Leadership.
LJS held a service to commemorate our two fallen heroes in ex-students Chris Maddison and Richard Turnbull, attended by families and friends. This took place in the Y11 Assembly on Remembrance Day, Friday 11 November and was deemed to be a great success with both families extremely grateful that their sons would have a permanent memorial on the main corridor of the new building. This ceremony also had a live feed which has had over 3,000 hits – with extremely positive feedback.
On the evening of Tuesday 27th September, Mrs McGrogan and Mrs Allan took 16 Year 11 students to The Arc in Stockton-on-Tees to watch Spanish director Almodóvar’s latest release Julieta. The students were fantastic and the evening was a great success. We hope to offer more opportunities like this in the future.

Historic Day for Laurence Jackson School
The keys to our wonderful new building have been exchanged; Tuesday 30 August will go down in our history as the day the new school building transferred ownership across to LJS. Known in the trade as Service Availability Day, this handover marks the end of an intensive construction programme and provides the young people of Guisborough and East Cleveland with a world class school fit for the 21st Century.
