Students walked from Roseberry Topping to Commondale on day 1. On day 2 students walked from Commondale to Lealholm in soaring temperatures but managed to complete the day in good spirits knowing that an ice cream was waiting for them.

We also managed to stream the England game on the iPad for students to watch. On day 3 students walked to their finish at Grosmont.

Once again a big thank you to Mr Weatherald, Miss Sadler and Miss Street for giving up their weekend to support this event.

Students have been asked to get creative and design the new memorial garden which will be situated near to the Sports Centre and the 3G pitches.

There are a number of items that must be included in the designs which are included in the design sheet instruction, as is the size and shape of the space available. Entries can be handed in either via form tutors or straight to L3 - where there will be a box for entries. There will be a winner from each form and also an overall winner. Below are a few pictures of the memorial garden from the old building.

Deadline for entries is Friday 6th July.

Any questions please see Miss Dixon or Mrs Spencer. Good luck Mrs Spencer/Miss Dixon

Former LJS and BTEC Dance Student Selected to Perform in Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake

We are delighted to share the news that former LJS student Andrew Ashton will be joining internationally acclaimed and world renowned choreographer Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures Company for their National and International tour of Swan Lake! From the beginning this has been a dream show for Andrew and so to be graduating from university straight into the show is an incredible and well-earned achievement. As a BTEC Dance student at LJS, Andrew was an inspiration to many and helped break the stereotypes of males performing in dance and has been one of the key contributors to the success and popularity of dance within the school. We are ecstatic that his passion and determination to succeed in this fiercely competitive industry has been recognised and rewarded. Andrew will be based at Sadler’s Wells and will be touring the World with company. I am sure everybody who knew Andrew will share our pride!

In October 2018, 28 LJS students will embark on the trip of a lifetime to Dubai, where they will play local schools in various sporting activities as well as experiencing the amazing leisure and cultural opportunities this wonderful city offers.

To help provide sports kits and equipment, local businesses were contacted to ask for sponsorship and I am delighted to thank the following companies for their fantastic generosity in sponsoring our students.

Please take time to visit their websites and Facebook pages and use their business to repay their amazing generosity towards LJS students.

Guisborough Town Hall Gateway Project

After two years of planning, the Heritage Lottery Fund has now given the proposals, which aim to turn Guisborough into the gateway to the North York Moors National Park, its initial support.

Guisborough Town Hall will be developed into a tourist information office, heritage centre, commercial units and offices.

Laurence Jackson School students have played a large part in shaping plans for this project, including presenting to the Guisborough Community about the town hall redevelopment and a number have been members of the student committee, alongside members of Redcar & Cleveland Council.
