Dear Parents

Yesterday (13 December), a small group of young people entered the school premises without permission. We believe that this was an isolated incident and school safeguarding protocols were implemented immediately. The police are investigating the matter in conjunction with the school and are using our CCTV to support their inquiries.

I recognise that parents will be concerned by this incident but I can assure you that the matter was dealt with swiftly and we are putting in place measures to ensure that it doesn’t happen again.

If you have any concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards

Belinda Wheatman

Cleveland College of Art and Design run a series of Saturday classes for young people.  They select students who are keen to develop their Art and Design skills and have a real interest in the subject. This year LJS students Adam B, Chloe C, Bryony R, Nina S, Jacob S, Hollie T, were successful in gaining places and attend CCAD to participate in events every Saturday during term time throughout the whole academic year.

During the sessions students experience working within a Further Education environment and working alongside guest artists and designers and are given the opportunity to produce a variety of pieces in different materials. Additionally the students go to London to visit current exhibitions and Somerset House. At the end of the year student’s exhibit work in the renowned venue with a celebration of achievements, alongside twenty other specialist art colleges and universities. Not only do they take part in the exhibition but are also given the opportunity to have a master class with internationally renowned artists.

At the end of the summer term July 2017 Laurence Jackson staff and students raised a grand total of £776.44 for the Bradley Lowery Foundation.

This money has now been gratefully received by the charity.

Well Done to all involved this is a fantastic achievement.

8 Y10 students completed their Bronze DofE Expedition at the weekend. On day 1 the students navigated their way from Great Broughton to Kildale and on arrival set up camp and cooked an evening meal. Even though they had been walking for 7 hours they still found the energy to participate in a night walk to Westerdale to see the ‘Seated Man.’ On day 2 the group cooked breakfast before breaking camp and heading towards Captain Cook’s Monument and climbing Roseberry Topping.

All the students did exceptionally well (Ruby W, Erin W, Katharine B, Jasmine B, Poppy K, Megan T, Cole M and Archie L). This now makes 44 Y10 students that have completed their Bronze DofE. I would also like to thank Sam Colman, Annabel Street and Jess Sadler for giving up their weekend to support me with the DofE. Without their ongoing support our students would not be offered this opportunity.   Mr Wyke

A huge congratulations to Kate G in Y11.

Kate was nominated for the Schools Physicist of the Year 2016/17 in recognition of her commitment to Science studies and completing GCSE Astronomy in her Y10.

We found out this week that Kate won the award and has received an official certificate and book voucher from Queen Mary University of London.
